What comes to mind when you picture Switzerland travel? Is it skiing down the powdery slopes, or red trains like the Glacier Express, curling around snow-capped peaks like the Matterhorn? Or maybe it’s biking and hiking through the lush greenery and waterfalls in Swiss villages like Gimmelwald, Interlaken and Lauterbrunnen. Whatever you see in your mind’s eye, it’s so much better in person. There are 48 peaks in the Swiss Alps, and they soar more than 13,000 feet (4,000 meters) into the sky. That’s the equivalent of nine Empire State Buildings stacked on top of each other. The crystalline lakes, like those found in Zurich, Geneva and Lucerne were created from the bluish green waters of alpine glaciers and are some of the largest and most beautiful in Europe. Are you a wine drinker? Imagine yourself nestled in the mountains while sipping some of the most exclusive wines in the world. The Swiss keep most of their wines to themselves, exporting less than two percent because the harvests are so small and typically grown on steep mountainsides, making it more difficult and expensive to collect the grapes. Switzerland has arguably one of the most beautiful natural landscapes in the entire world. It’s almost as if Mother Nature discovered this little jewel box in Europe and decided to show off.
